1999 Subaru Forester Woody Concept Vehicle
The Forester Woody stored in the attic was a concept car built for the 1999 auto show season. Since then, it has been displayed at the Peterson Auto Museum in Los Angeles, California, and Owls Head Transportation Museum in Owls Head, Maine. This Forester also has been shown in a concours d’elegance.

The Woody helped to bring attention to 25 years of Subaru All-Wheel Drive in America as well as to demonstrate the commitment that Subaru has to the SUV market. At that time, Subaru was the top-selling import wagon for 17 years. The Subaru Woody also promoted the partnership of Subaru of America and the American Association of Snowboard Manufacturers. The association’s logo is on the rear window.

Dashboard

The design theme was intended to hearken back to the woody wagons of the 1950s. Outside, the Woody features wood accents across the license-plate indentation and fog lamps on the front bumper, wood veneer on the sides and rear, and wooden strips for the luggage rack. Inside, features reminiscent of earlier times include wood on the steering wheel, wood strips on the cargo floor, and upholstery that looked like wicker cane. The wood is real, including Philippine mahogany and white ash.

Other design cues from the 1950s include wheel rings and “Baby Moon” hubcaps on steel wheels, which are mounted with whitewall tires.
