Subaru BRZ Earns a "10Best" Award
The all-new 2013 BRZ sports car recently achieved a spot on Car and Driver's 10Best list.
"The Subaru BRZ is a worthy addition to the 10Best list," said Eddie Alterman, Editor-in-Chief, Car and Driver. "It has a low center of gravity, a perfectly balanced chassis, and not much else to get in the way of all that. This is a driver's car pure and simple; a powerful counterbalance to the forces of automotive bloat."

Special thanks to the Subaru customers who helped us donate 326,470 pounds of food to the 14th Annual Camp Out for Hunger event hosted by Philadelphia radio's 93.3 WMMR. The contributions benefit Philabundance, the region's largest food bank and hunger relief organization.
Daily live broadcasts from Preston and Steve, the station's popular disc jockeys, moved listeners to contribute more than more than 313 tons (627,000+ pounds) of food. Subaru employees, dealerships and customers donated more than half that amount, earning us recognition as "Largest Contribution by a Business." It is our third time winning this honor in the past four years.
SHARC Wins Design Challenge
Subaru won the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show Design Challenge competition after the presentation of its SHARC (Subaru Highway Automated Response Concept) vehicle. As a futuristic model for 24-hour highway monitoring, the SHARC provides protection and rapid emergency response solutions for Hawaii's highway patrol.
In response to this year's Design Challenge theme, "Highway Patrol Vehicle 2025," Subaru presented the SHARC vehicle to patrol a hypothetical inter-island Paradise Highway. Powered by renewable energy and operating autonomously, the cutting-edge SHARC presents an affordable and environmentally conscious highway patrol vehicle that meets Hawaii's strict UltraGreen carbon-neutral environmental regulations.

Our neighborhood in New Jersey was hit hard by hurricane Sandy. After spending numerous hours chopping wood and clearing our yard of piles of leaves, branches, and logs, my son had an idea. He hooked up a tarp to our Subaru Forester and we easily drove through our muddy yard. Our Subaru was great hauling out all the debris and helped make the work more enjoyable.

Carol and I have found that both our 2003 Outback and 2011 Forester (seen beside the Common in Irasburg, Vermont) are ideal for carrying our 27-foot long racing scull and nine-foot oars to our boathouse, rowing camp, regattas, placid ponds in northern New England, and beautiful stretches of our Connecticut River.

Think of some places in which you'd normally never set foot. Like Death Valley. In the 2013 Outback, a dry lake bed on a 102° F day suddenly becomes an easygoing destination. And nearby ghost towns ... Read more.

Airbag Safety
Since their invention, airbags, along with the seatbelt, have played a major role in reducing the number of injuries and deaths in traffic collisions. If you're not careful, however, the thing that is supposed to ward off injuries can also contribute to one.
Here are five ways to reduce airbag incidents and improve your overall safety:
Buckle Up Always wear your seatbelt and wear it correctly. Resist tucking the shoulder strap under your arm or around your back. When you're in an accident, the seatbelt tensioners hold your upper body in place, keeping you from traveling too close to the airbag's trajectory.
Stay Away from the Steering Wheel Sit at least 10 inches from the steering wheel and dashboard. An airbag inflates in just 1/25th of a second — faster than a blink of an eye — and an injury can be caused by your body meeting the airbag prematurely. The farther you are from the site of deployment, the less likely your face or body will meet the airbag during its inflation.
Kids in the Back Many states require seating your children in the backseat if they're under 12 years of age. In the majority of accidents, the backseat — whether there's a front passenger airbag or not — is the safest place to be.
Watch Your Hands While driving, you want to keep your hands out of the airbag's way. Placing your hands at 10 and 2 and keeping your thumbs unhooked from the steering wheel will reduce the chance of your extremities getting caught in the line of fire.
Tilt Appropriately If you have a tilting steering wheel, make sure its center is pointed at your chest instead of your head. The airbag should support your chest and shoulders, distributing the impact evenly, not deliver an uppercut to the chin.
