Cooper River Cleanup
More than 110 volunteers recently joined Subaru and retailer United By Blue (UBB) in cleaning up along the Cooper River in Pennsauken, NJ. For every product sold, UBB removes 1 pound of trash from the world's oceans and waterways. Hardworking volunteers collected 7,268 pounds of trash; including a voodoo doll, eight TVs, 15 tires, a machete, a fish tank stand, a hot dog chew toy, a baby doll and a coconut!
Subaru also provided the official cleanup vehicles — two 2012 Outbacks. The event was the first of four cleanups Subaru will co-host in the weeks ahead. Share, Tweet

This is the ole west, buckaroos. I call this shot "The Adventure Begins" as it was taken upon our arrival at Big Bend National Park where we started our canoe trip. Just handed down my trusty, 170,000-mile, 2000 Outback to my son at college far away. I sent it down on a car carrier, and got this photo a couple days later. I have a new Impreza, and he has a safe, reliable vehicle to get around Nashville to campus, work, and gigs (the back will be hauling a lot of drum gear). My other son already got our other Outback! Thanks, Subaru, for keeping my boys safe and obviously happy.

Driving in Severe Weather: Hurricane!
Part 3 in a series. Next Insider — Blinding Sun
Hurricanes are one of the most destructive natural weather occurrences on the planet. These powerful storm systems have large low pressure centers that produce intense winds and heavy rainfall.
All Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coastal areas are subject to hurricanes, while parts of the Southwest United States and the Pacific Coast experience heavy rains and floods each year from hurricanes spawned off Mexico.
If you live in or visit a hurricane-prone area, familiarize yourself with these evacuation guidelines provided by FEMA:
- Create a Family Emergency Plan.
- Keep a full tank of gas in your car if an evacuation seems likely, and a half tank at all times in case of an unexpected need to evacuate. Gas stations may be closed during emergencies and unable to pump gas during power outages.
- Be alert for road hazards such as washed-out roads or bridges and downed power lines. Do not drive into flooded areas.
- Carry an emergency supply kit in your vehicle.
- Listen to a battery-powered radio and follow local evacuation instructions.
- Learn alternate routes and other means of transportation out of the area. Choose several destinations in different directions so you have options in an emergency.
- Leave early enough to avoid being trapped by severe weather.
- Follow recommended evacuation routes. Do not take shortcuts; they may be blocked.
- Take your pets with you, but understand that only service animals may be permitted in public shelters. Plan how you will care for your pets in an emergency.
