Your Safety Matters

Subaru EyeSight® driver-assist technology is like having a second set of eyes on the road.1 Two cameras mounted near the rearview mirror monitor the action in front of the vehicle and can automatically integrate four different systems to help you avoid an accident:

Pre-collision Braking System can help you prevent rear ending the car in front of you. If a car in front of you suddenly slows down, EyeSight analyzes the closing speed and will sound an alert and flash a visual warning if there is the danger of a collision. If you don't hit the brakes, EyeSight will do it for you, applying the brakes automatically.

Pre-collision Throttle Management reduces available acceleration in situations where the system detects objects in front of your vehicle that you are likely to hit. The engine output is restricted to reduce possible impact force and frontal impact damage, and to help keep you safe.

Adaptive Cruise Control assists your freeway driving. Since traffic rarely travels at a constant pace, EyeSight adjusts with it. When set, it monitors traffic ahead and helps modulate speed to maintain a safe distance — smoothly braking if traffic slows, and accelerating back up to the set speed when traffic flows.

Lane Departure and Sway Warning alerts you if your Subaru starts to drift from its lane. As your car is in motion, EyeSight looks ahead, identifying lane markers on the road. Should your vehicle begin to stray from the lane without signaling, beeps will sound and a warning will appear on the dash.

EyeSight is available on select 2014 Forester and 2013 and 2014 Legacy and Outback vehicles.

The fall issue of Drive is still on press, but we're giving Subaru Insiders an early look at "Engine Oil Maintenance and Warnings." Enjoy this excerpt and read the full article here.

Three Facts About Engine Oil

FACT: Subaru designed today's engines to operate longer between oil changes. After decades of reminding owners to change engine oil every 3,000 miles, engine and oil technologies now allow for 7,500-mile maintenance intervals.

FACT: Engines consume oil during normal operation. How much they consume varies based on manufacturing tolerances, wear and, most importantly, usage.

FACT: Oil consumption between 7,500-mile oil changes is acceptable, even expected. In the shorter maintenance intervals of the past, the engines consumed oil, but owners didn't notice it for two reasons:

No warning lights illuminated to indicate that the oil level was low.
Shorter intervals between oil changes would mask oil consumption — unless owners checked engine oil regularly between services.

1EyeSight is a driver-assist system which may not operate optimally under all driving conditions. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors such as vehicle maintenance, and weather and road conditions. See Owner's Manual for complete details on system operation and limitations.
