FIVE WAYS TO PRESERVE A HIGH-MILEAGE SUBARU AND KEEP IT
RUNNING
|
![]() PARKING LIGHT SWITCH
The parking light switch on the steering column can be inadvertently turned on by car wash or service personnel or by drivers when resetting the odometer or cleaning the vehicle. Turning on the switch illuminates the parking lights and taillights after the vehicle is turned off. If your parking lights remain on after removing your key from the ignition, check the switch. It could prevent a dead battery! See your Owner’s Manual for more information. BACK TO TOP |
![]() SEASONAL FILTER CHANGE REMINDER
For Subaru vehicles that have cabin air filters, replacing the filters for summertime driving can improve the comfort level of passengers with allergies. Clean filters clean the air of particles better than ones clogged with dirt and debris. A sticker on the side of the dash (visible when the front doors are open) tells you that you have a cabin air filter. If in doubt, contact your Subaru retailer. BACK TO TOP |

![]() LEGACY AND OUTBACK DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRL)
In response to owner comments, Subaru has revised the DRL operation in Subaru Legacy and Outback models. DRL are illuminated as a safety feature when vehicle is running and the headlights are turned off. In 2007 models, the level of brightness is less than that of normal headlights and not appropriate for driving at night. Illumination is from the low-beam bulb, with parking lights and taillights on. A “DRL” symbol in the instrument panel illuminates when the DRL system is on. In 2008 models, the level of brightness is reduced from 2007 to help drivers determine that headlights should be turned on. Illumination is from the high-beam bulb, without parking lights. Taillights are off. BACK TO TOP |

QUESTION FROM READER LETTERS: I heard that I shouldn’t use cruise control on ice and snow. Is that true? ANSWER: Cruise control is a convenience feature not intended for every driving situation. It allows you to maintain vehicle speed without having to hold your foot on the accelerator. However, cruise control should never be used on slippery or wet roads, or when:
Remember to turn off the main cruise-control switch when not in use to avoid accidental activation. See your Owner’s Manual for more information. BACK TO TOP |
