A long-standing, multiline Subaru retailer, Brandon Tomes Subaru has deep roots in the McKinney, Texas, community. There it supports causes that range from sponsorship for Earth Day and recycle day to participation in events in support of the McKinney Independent School District, Meals On Wheels, and The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) organizations.
During the annual Subaru National Business Conference in May of this year, Subaru Corporate Responsibility encouraged attending retailers to share their environmental stories and enter a drawing to be highlighted in this issue of Drive magazine. Brandon Tomes Subaru is featured here because it was selected as the winner.
In 2009, Brandon Tomes Subaru sold its first Subaru – a 2009 Legacy. Three years later, it completed construction of a brand-new retail building on its two-acre lot.
The new building accentuates the environmental efforts supported by Brandon Tomes Subaru. It includes all-LED indoor and outdoor lighting and auto-motion lights (yes, it will turn off if you sit still too long). The heating and air-conditioning units are high-efficiency, and all these pieces have helped to contribute to cost savings of 25 percent or more compared to the previous facility.
The Brandon Tomes organization also created an environmental board that meets quarterly to discuss ways to keep the facility green, the creation of a greener space, and facility energy usage data – in addition to the recycling of glass, paper, and cardboard from the parts department.
Because of all these measures, Brandon Tomes Subaru was one of the first retailers to be recognized as an Eco-Friendly Retailer by Subaru. It also received its first Subaru Stellar Care Award in 2012 for providing exceptional ownership experiences to its customers.
As part of its eco-friendly outreach, Brandon Tomes Subaru participates in eco-friendly giveaways, including bookmarks containing seeds and sustainable-metal water bottles.
